About Abbey Lane

Abbey Lane began in Leeds in 2010 with one simple idea.

I wanted to create a warm and welcoming place where women could find clothes that felt lovely to wear, suited real life and helped them feel good about themselves.

I have always believed that style should never feel difficult. You should not have to choose between looking elegant and feeling comfortable. You should not have to dress younger than you are, or hide who you are, to feel beautiful.

The right piece of clothing can do something quite special. It can make an ordinary lunch feel like an occasion. It can give you a little more confidence before you walk into a room. It can become the dress you always reach for, the cardigan you take everywhere or the blouse that makes you feel instantly put together.

That feeling is at the heart of Abbey Lane.

The Name Behind Abbey Lane

My full name is Abigail Lane, although my family and friends have always called me Abbey.

When I was choosing a name for the shop, I wanted something that felt personal, warm and familiar. Using my own name felt right because Abbey Lane was never meant to be a faceless business. It was something I was building with my own hands, my own ideas and a great deal of heart.

Putting my name above the door also felt like a promise. A promise that I would stand behind the pieces we offered, the service we gave and the way every customer was treated.

Over the years, Abbey Lane has grown into much more than a name. It has become a community, a story and a place I am incredibly proud to call my own.

How It All Began

When I opened Abbey Lane in 2010, I did not have a large team or a perfect plan.

I simply had a love of fashion, a great deal of determination and a clear idea of the sort of shop I wanted to create.

I wanted it to feel personal.

The kind of place where you could take your time, ask an honest question and receive a kind answer. A place where women were treated as people, not order numbers. Somewhere that felt calm, friendly and familiar from the moment you walked through the door.

The early years were full of excitement, but they were not always easy.

There were long days, quiet weeks, difficult decisions and plenty of moments when I wondered whether I was getting it right. I learned as I went along. I listened carefully to customers, changed things that were not working and kept going even when progress felt slow.

There were times when giving up would have been easier. But every kind message, every returning customer and every recommendation reminded me why I had started.

What made the biggest difference was the support of the women around me.

Every visit, every order and every encouraging word helped Abbey Lane grow. Over time, the shop became more than a place to find clothes. It became a community filled with conversations, familiar faces, laughter and trust.

Reaching our 16th anniversary means more to me than I can easily put into words.

When I think back to the beginning, I remember the excitement, the nerves and the hope that Abbey Lane might one day become something special. I could not have imagined how many wonderful women would become part of its story.

There have been difficult moments along the way, but there have also been many more moments of pride, happiness and gratitude.

Abbey Lane has grown because customers chose to support an independent business. You placed orders, returned to shop with us again and recommended us to friends and family.

That support has allowed Abbey Lane to continue doing what I love.

Our Anniversary Sale is my way of celebrating this milestone with you and giving something back to the community that has supported us through every chapter.
