A letter from a customer: the Margaux wrap scarf
I bought this as a gift for my sister. I have since ordered a second one, for myself.
A genuinely oversized wrap scarf, written up by a customer, not the shop.
I own more scarves than I need, if I am honest. Most of them are too thin to do anything useful in a proper British winter, or too fussy to just grab on the way out the door. So when I saw a plain, oversized wrap scarf going for a fraction of its usual price, I was sceptical before I had even clicked through. Plain is easy to get wrong, either too thin to be worth having or too scratchy to wear against your neck for more than ten minutes.

I ordered one in camel, mostly to see whether it was worth the fuss. It arrived heavier and softer than I expected, and that is really where this letter starts.
It is genuinely oversized, not just "generous" on the label
I have bought "oversized" scarves before that turned out to be a normal scarf with an optimistic name. This one wraps around twice with room to spare, and still falls past my waist. That is the difference between a scarf that just sits there and one that actually keeps the wind off your chest on the walk to the car.
I wrapped it once, thought that would do, and then realised I had enough left to go round again. That has not happened with a scarf in years.
Plain means it goes with everything, which was the whole point
No pattern, no logo, nothing to clash with. It goes over my camel coat, my navy coat, and the old green jacket I refuse to retire. I did not have to think about it, which is exactly what I wanted from a scarf in the first place.

It did the gift-giving for me
I bought a second one in burgundy for my sister's birthday before I had even properly tried mine on. It is the sort of gift that does not need the right size or the right taste guessed at, just a colour. She has since asked, carefully, whether I know where it came from.
People notice it before they notice you have noticed them noticing
I was stopped twice on an ordinary walk, both times by women asking where it was from. My husband, who comments on my clothes perhaps twice a year, asked if it was new. I take that seriously when it happens.

The price made me stop putting it off
I am wary of a steep discount on its own, because it only means something if the thing underneath is worth having. This one was, so the 80% off simply removed the last reason I had to keep scrolling past it.
It has become the scarf I actually reach for
Not the one saved for best, not the one that stays folded in a drawer. It is warm enough for the school run and smart enough for lunch out, and at this point it lives on the hook by the front door rather than in a box.
The Margaux, in all three colours
Camel
Burgundy
Charcoal Grey
The knit, up close
I have owned thinner scarves that cost more than this one does now. Here is the difference, laid out plainly.
The thin scarf in the drawer
- Looks fine in photos, does little in the wind
- Too small to wrap twice
- Picks up bobbles after a few wears
- Full price
The Margaux
- Soft, chunky knit that actually keeps the cold off
- Generously oversized, wraps twice with room to spare
- Plain colourway, goes with every coat I own
- 80% off, one size
About the price
I will be honest, when something this useful is also 80% off, my instinct is to look for the catch. I looked. The knit is exactly as soft as it looks in the photograph, and it has not bobbled or gone thin after wearing it most days this month.
Free UK delivery, and 30 days to send it back if it is not right. If, like me, you own three scarves too thin to actually be useful, I would have a proper look at this one before the weather turns properly cold.
